Together for aquatic nature – Image Wear joins in protecting inland waters

Nature gives us experiences and inspiration – the morning mist over a lake, the gentle murmur of streams deep in the forest. For us, valuing and protecting nature is a matter close to the heart. That’s why we want to play our part in safeguarding its wellbeing.

We support the Finnish Freshwater Foundation in its work to improve the state of Finland's inland waters and preserve our water-related cultural heritage. Our donation helps enable restoration projects, communication, and education - everything needed to keep our waterways thriving for generations to come. From tiny streams to vast lakes, they all deserve our attention.

Restoring Nuijajoki river – concrete actions for aquatic nature

Respect for nature is reflected in practical measures. The pilot site for the Finnish Freshwater Foundation's Forest Nature Gems - Together for the Small Ones project is the Nuijajoki catchment area in Karkkila, where a range of restoration activities are underway: blocking drainage ditches, expanding buffer zones, and diversifying stream habitats. The project also offers field trips and educational materials, and plans include an open learning trail where visitors can explore real-life solutions for restoring small waters. This is how we ensure that waterways remain vibrant and continue to offer experiences in the future.

Previous projects – long-term commitment to water protection

The Finnish Freshwater Foundation's work continues strongly through earlier projects as well. In the Small Waters - Helmi project, springs and streams were restored at twelve sites across Finland, a nationwide webinar series and field training sessions were organised, and extensive guidance materials were produced to support small water restoration.

Last spring, the Foundation made a significant cultural contribution by publishing, together with the John Nurminen Foundation, the book "Water - the Oldest Remedy". The book combines water-related folklore, natural sciences, and art. You can find more information about ongoing and completed projects on the Finnish Freshwater Foundation's website .
