We have chosen the John Nurminen Foundation as our new sponsorship partner. The Foundation's mission is to save the Baltic Sea and its heritage for future generations.

The Baltic Sea as part of everyday life and sustainability work

The choice is based on Image Wear's operations and sustainability work in the Baltic Sea region. We operate on both sides of the sea: our parent company Image Wear Oy is based in Finland and our subsidiary Image Wear AS runs factories in Narva and Viljandi in Estonia. Every week, we, along with our products and materials cross the Baltic Sea.

The Baltic Sea is a tangible part of our daily operations, from production to logistics. That's why it felt natural to support an organisation doing impactful and concrete work for the benefit of the Baltic Sea, says Kati Tukiainen, Image Wear's Development and Sustainability Director.

Concrete actions to protect the Baltic Sea

The John Nurminen Foundation's work focuses on protecting the Baltic Sea through four key areas. Through effective projects, it reduces nutrient loads causing eutrophication from land and forests, protects marine nature and promotes biodiversity, reduces emissions from maritime traffic, and strengthens people's connection to the sea. The Foundation operates across the Baltic Sea region and is funded through donations.

The Foundation's latest project focuses on preparedness for oil spills. The John Nurminen Foundation helps authorities in the eastern Gulf of Finland by building an oil boom anchoring system to improve response readiness in potential accident situations.

We want to do our part in securing the future of the Baltic Sea. The work of the John Nurminen Foundation is both impactful and measurable, and we feel it aligns excellently with Image Wear's sustainability goals, Tukiainen says.

For Tukiainen, the Baltic Sea is also a part of her leasure time through her passion for outdoor activities. She has traversed the Baltic Sea by kayaking and rowing, as well as cycling in the archipelago.  - When you move at a slower pace, the sea is close, and funfortunately, so are the algae blooms. It is important that we can make a small contribution to ensuring the sea and its shores remain for future generations of outdoor enthusiasts.

-Thank you, Image Wear, for your important support for the Baltic Sea. With donations, we can continue effective and successful protection of the Baltic Sea marine environment both in Finland and across the Baltic Sea coastal countries, while also strengthening people's connection to the sea," thanks Teemu Iltola, Fundraiser at the John Nurminen Foundation.
