On Baltic Sea Day, we take a moment to appreciate our home sea

The Baltic Sea connects us all

On Thursday, 27 August, we celebrate Baltic Sea Day, an annual event held on the last Thursday of August. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of the significance of the Baltic Sea, enjoy our unique marine environment, and encourage actions that support its wellbeing. Baltic Sea Day is an international celebration initiated by the John Nurminen Foundation.

At Image Wear, the Baltic Sea is present in our work and our free time. We operate on both sides of the Baltic Sea, and therefore its well-being is an important part of our sustainability efforts. We support the long-term work of the John Nurminen Foundation in protecting the Baltic Sea.

The Baltic Sea through the eyes of our employees

To mark this year's Baltic Sea Day, we collected photos taken by our emplyees from various locations around the Baltic Sea. Through these images, a beloved and diverse sea comes to life: sunsets over the Bothnian Sea, kayaking and rowing trips in the archipelago, sailing adventures on the open sea, and peaceful coastal landscapes from Helsinki, Espoo, Turku, Kotka, Virolahti, Tammisaari, Parainen, and Airisto.

Each picture tells its own story. For some, the Baltic Sea is a landscape of childhood memories; for others, it's a destination for hiking and boating. For many, it's a place to relax, stay active, and spend time with loved ones. What all the pictures have in common is a deep appreciation for the sea.

Beautiful yet fragile

Although the Baltic Sea offers us memorable experiences throughout the year, its condition still requires our attention. As a small and shallow sea, it is particularly vulnerable to environmental changes. Eutrophication and the decline of biodiversity are its biggest challenges. Therefore, every action for the benefit of the Baltic Sea is important.

Even small everyday choices can make a difference: responsible consumption, caring for nature, and supporting organisations working to protect the Baltic Sea. Together, let's look after this precious sea so that its shores, archipelagos, and waves can continue to bring joy to future generations.
